Are You Leaky?

by Lucinda Reyna

Actually, for a Christian, that is a good thing to be.

I’ve been pondering some things lately that are telling me I’m too closed up. I’m too guarded. I’m too afraid of being transparent. Most of us are afraid we won’t measure up or be approved of. We all have secrets and we tend to spend our whole life apologizing, regretting, feeling hurt, covering up, or trying to forget what’s in our past. Our containers are full - of the wrong stuff!

We tend to want to fix them up to be presentable, with no attention to what’s inside.

There’s a beautiful analogy about us being “jars of Jesus”. When someone looks at us, they shouldn’t see us, but Jesus - because of all the qualities of his that he’s filled us with. I LOVE that! We still have our containers, but they’re filled with him to the point of someone looking at us, but actually seeing Jesus in us. People can’t see Jesus though, if our jars aren’t transparent. That tends to be where the difficulty comes. Are we willing to be open with others enough for them to actually see Jesus? Or do we just keep him in our containers, closed up, on display on the shelf?

Sometimes it’s good to open up and let what’s inside leak out. It doesn’t need to pour out necessarily, but drip out - consistently. Others we come in contact with don’t want us to douse them with spirituality, but rather show them what having Jesus in us is all about. It needs to be a constant leaking of something they shouldn’t be without. Leak enough Jesus so others can follow the trail!
